When buying batteries you should note the run-time and cost of the battery as compared to other brands. Another important point to observe is the manner with which the battery is to be attached, and the amount of time necessary to recharge it. You don’t want to be stranded in a strange hotel room when on a business trip, with batteries you can’t make sense of!
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) Batteries: These were the first rechargeable batteries manufactured for laptops. They were relatively inexpensive, had high output and versatile, because they could be used in a wide variety of products. However, NiCd batteries have now been abandoned by laptop manufacturers with the introduction of more efficient and lighter-weight batteries.
Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, for example, were one better option because they had greater output, cost less, were safer and more reliable. NiMH batteries had one major drawback, though: the “memory effect.” Because they had to be fully discharged before they could properly recharge, these batteries were seen as a time-consuming hassle. Older models of laptops may have these batteries.
The most popular batteries for laptops is now the lithium ion (LiON). LiON batteries don’t have the memory and recharging issues of NiMH batteries, and they weigh a lot less than previous types of laptop batteries. On the other hand, they are the most expensive kind of laptop batteries.
Cell phones are not as expensive as they used to be, but you can still end up paying a lot for one. You might need to save for a few months to get the best phone on the market. Or you might need to watch your spending more once you start getting the bills for cell phone fees and extras. You might also need to consider the cost of cell phone batteries.
You can stick with the basic cell phone battery that comes with your phone, or you can upgrade. You get what you pay for, and the cheapest cell phone battery is probably not very good. Beware of restored cell phone batteries being sold at low prices. They’re made with used parts and, as a result, don’t work nearly as well as new cell phone batteries. While it’s possible to locate a high-capacity battery for a good price, make sure it’s new and not a restored cell phone battery.
A digital camera battery is probably the most important digital camera accessory. Some digital cameras can consume power at an alarming rate, providing no more than a few hours of continuous shooting time before the battery is drained. Other cameras are renowned for the long life of their digital camera battery which allows users to snap away with barely a thought to power consumption. It is important to know how you intend to use your camera and what type of battery it needs.
Two kinds of digital camera batteries are available today. The AA battery is very common, as is the rechargeable digital camera battery. Also known as proprietary batteries, these are usually made by the manufacturer.
